Skincare Ritual | Problematic Skin

I’m in my late 20’s (Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I’m admitting to that) but still breakout as if I’m in my teens. I’ve come to terms with this dilemma several years ago but it doesn’t mean I just sit there and let myself go. My breakouts are hormonal these days and I feel that’s better than breaking out at random times for random reasons. So what do I do when I get those monthly breakouts? I’ve learned over time that the simpler my skincare ritual, the better. The following is my skincare ritual day in/day out until my skin is back to normal. Step 1 | Wash face with raw manuka honey Step 2 | Moisturize with organic coconut oil Step 3 | Apply Cell Perfecto PM Manuka honey has wonderful healing properties. It’s anti-bacterial and a natural humectant. Coconut oil has antioxidant properties, deeply moisturizes, and assists in healing. Both items can be purchased at any health food store. I purchased my honey from here but I’m sure other online outlets like Amazon sell …

Quarterly Co. | #NDL08 featuring Ecotools, 100% Pure, and Esme

As I was impatiently waiting for the #NDL09 package to arrive this month, I realized that I had not done my review for the last box. Eek, my bad! There were two reasons why I was lagging on my reviews: (1) I had become extremely busy towards the end of 2013 with some personal matters and (2) I wasn’t very impressed with the items in this box. $25 per box This quarter’s theme? Eyebrows. Those lovely bushes of hair just above your eyes and one of my favorite features on a face. If groomed correctly, eyebrows are suppose to help frame your eyes. My brows aren’t too bad. They’re dark, a bit bushy, and a medium thickness but are slowly thinning as the years pass. No doubt I’ll need to tattoo them when I’m old! In order to preserve my brows, I do like to enhance them with my current brow gel. What do you think of this quarter’s items? Esme Minerals Snowflake Eyeshadow “A simple white shadow is a good thing to have around …

Saya Skin | Rooibos + Aloe Face Serum

This serum is packed full of natural ingredients to actively improve skin health and overall appearance by helping to reduce fine lines, revitalise, intensively hydrate and firm facial tone. Happy 2014 to you all! The start to the new year has been quite hectic for me but I am now back to my lovely home, sleeping again in my lovely bed and I’m ready to give this blog my full attention. So how to start off my first post for the new year? With positivity! There are a ton of products that I’m impatiently waiting to share with you but, in honor of the upcoming Australia Day and my Aussie readers, I decided to boast about a serum hailing from Queensland. I found Saya Skin while on the interweb and decided I was going to actively search for this brand. I ended up finding it at a local Surfcoast Wholefoods in Torquay, Victoria on my roadtrip to see the 12 Apostles. I had no idea what I wanted to get but after contemplating for too …

100% Pure | Honey + Virgin Coconut Restorative Conditioner

Restorative conditioner deeply moisturizes, repairs, softens and detangles dry, damaged hair. Gentle enough for color treated and all hair types. My hair, even though I love it, does give me the biggest grief sometimes. It’s long, it’s thick, and it has varying textures all over. A hair conditioner is not an option in my shower routine. I’ve been on the longest mission to find a conditioner that I can stick with. I thought I found the one but, after a second bottle, I’ve decided that this one isn’t quite my Holy Grail item but it’ up there. $18 per tube (8 oz) In the beginning I really liked this conditioner. I was particularly impressed with the smell – a heavenly coconut scent. I’m not a huge fan of coconut but the smell is not overbearing and quite pleasant. The consistency is notably creamy and thick. It spreads easily all over my hair and I can tell where I apply it because of the buttery after feel. When I initially rinse it out my hair feels incredibly soft and …

Sodashi | Clay Cleanser with Lime

Almost 3 months ago I entered the Sodashi giveaway on Instagram (follow me and Sodashi) by simply answering their question. S: Tell us your skintype & what colour clay Sodashi uses in it’s cleansers. WB: KAOLIN (white clay)! My skin type is normo/combo! Is this open only to Australian residents or is it available to outside residents as well? Appreciate the giveaway! Hope to everything that I win! Well looks like my prayers were answered because several days later I was tagged as one of the winners! I was so ecstatic that I actually jumped for joy while holding The Mister’s hands. In return he was happy because that meant I saved myself (or us, OK, him) money. $72 per bottle ( 200 mL / 6.8 fl oz) When I received a package from Australia a couple weeks later I immediately pulled out my box knife and hacked away at the tape. I was so delighted to have full size products in my possession! Packaged in a plain white box with black simple lettering, the …

100% Pure | Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream

I used to think that eye creams were a gimmick by the beauty industry to convince the consumers that it was a necessary buy. The only issue I ever had with my eye area is puffiness. Then I started noticing some fine lines at the corner of my eyes. Between squinting (near sighted) and laughing, I knew I would eventually get lines in that area but I didn’t think in my 20’s. After reading Chizu Saeki’s book The Japanese Skincare Revolution, I was ultimately swayed into giving eye creams another chance. With that decision I told myself that I wasn’t getting anything expensive. I would have hated myself if I spent all that money and didn’t receive the results I expected, if any at all.  As I was purchasing other products from 100% Pure’s website, I saw that they had an eye cream with some promising results. After an independent clinical 4 week study 83% saw immediate reduction of puffiness 97% saw reduction of puffiness with continued use 73% saw an immediate reduction of dark …

Yarok | Feed Your Volume

Discovering new and different eco-conscious brands is always fun for me. I try to do as much research and review-reading as possible before making a purchase. So when I found out about Yarok, created by beauty editor/hairstylist Mordechai Alvow, I put this shampoo on my must-have list. Meaning “green” in hebrew, this shampoo meets all vegan requirements. The whole entire line is free of alcohol/sulfates/parabens and cruelty free. The packaging is made of recyclable plastic with the the most environmentally-friendly waterproof paper on the market (80%0 non-GMO corn). I’ve read nothing but positive reviews about Yarok and was so eager to try it. An all-natural shampoo that promises to fortify and volumize your hair? Who wouldn’t want that?! $30 per bottle (8.5 fl oz) In the beginning, I thought this shampoo worked really nicely. It definitely gave me a squeeky clean feel without stripping my hair. I could go more than two days without shampooing and not look like a greaseball. I absolutely love the amount of lather that it produces. For a natural shampoo, this is …

Skincare Ritual | Summer 2013

Well, everyone, September is officially here! We are now three-quarters through the year and summer is over for most people. However in Southern California, summer doesn’t truly end for us probably until October. We’ve been experiencing quite a mild summer in San Diego compared to last until recently. Temperatures that were once in the mid 70’s are now reaching towards the mid 80’s. I know, we’re spoiled but that doesn’t mean it still isn’t hot! As the seasons change, your skincare routine should change accordingly. There are many out there that can use the same products year-round and not be affected by the seasonal change. Unfortunately, for me, my skin is quite sensitive to change and I must pay close attention to what my skin is telling me. As a green beauty blogger, it’s my duty to try different types of products. With all the products that I’ve been testing out, here’s what I’ve been using to help keep my face fresh this season. MORNING I begin each day with rinsing my face with water. …
